Hadith Qudsi
13:
On the authority of Adiyy ibn
Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
I was with the Messenger of
Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be
upon him) and there came to him two men: one
of them was complaining of penury (being very poor), while the other
was
complaining of brigandry (robbery). The Messenger
of Allah (may the blessings and peace of
Allah be upon him) said: As for brigandry, it will
be but a short time before a caravan will
[be able to] go out of Mecca without a guard. As
for penury, the Hour (Day of Judgement)
will not arrive before one of you takes his
charity around without finding anyone to
accept it from him. Then (1) one of you will
surely stand before Allah, there being no screed
between Him and him, nor an interpreter to
translate for him. Then He will say to him:
Did I not bring you wealth? And he will say: Yes.
Then He will say: Did I not send to you a
messenger? And he will say: Yes. And he will look
to his right and will see nothing but
Hell-fire, then he will look to his left and will
see nothing but Hell-fire, so let each of you
protect himself against Hell-fire, be it with even
half a date - and if he finds it not, then with a
kind word.
(1) i.e. at the time of the
Hour. It was related by al-Bukhari.

The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) came
to us while we were reciting the Qur'an, and there
were among us bedouins and the non-Arabs. He said: Recite,
all is well. In the near future there
will appear people who will straighten it (the Qur'an) as
an arrow is straightened. They will recite it
quickly and not slowly (or it means that they will get the reward in
this world and not in the Hereafter).

Narrated AbuHurayrah:
The Apostle of Allah
(peace_be_upon_him) said: The best day on which
the sun has risen is Friday; on it Adam was
created, on it he was expelled (from Paradise), on it his contrition
was accepted,
on it he died, and on it the Last Hour will take place. On Friday every
beast is on
the lookout from dawn to sunrise in fear of the Last Hour, but not jinn
and men,
and it contains a time at which no Muslim prays and asks anything from
Allah but He
will give it to him. Ka'b said: That is one day every year. So I said:
It is on
every Friday. Ka'b read the Torah and said: The Apostle of Allah
(peace_be_upon_him) has spoken the truth.
AbuHurayrah said: I met Abdullah ibn Salam and told him
of my meeting with Ka'b. Abdullah ibn Salam said: I know what time it
is.
AbuHurayrah said: I asked him to tell me about it. Abdullah ibn Salam
said: It is at
the very end of Friday. I asked: How can it be
when the Apostle of Allah
(peace_be_upon_him) has said: "No Muslim finds it
while he is praying...." and this is the moment
when no prayer is offered. Abdullah ibn Salam said: Has the Apostle of
Allah
(peace_be_upon_him) not said: "If anyone is seated waiting for the
prayer, he is
engaged in the prayer until he observes it." I
said: Yes, it is so.

When the Apostle of Allah

whom
Allah guide has no one who can lead him astray, and he whom He leads
astray has no
one to guide him. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,
and I
bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and apostle. He sent him
before the
coming of the last hour with truth giving good tidings and warning. He
who obeys
Allah and His Apostle follows the right path; and he who disobeys them
shall harm
none except himself, and he will not harm Allah in the least.

Allah's Messenger

where living
is cheap, come to where there is plenty, but
Medina will be better for them; would they
know it! By Him in Whose Hand is my life, none amongst them would go
out (of the
city) with a dislike for it, but Allah would make his successor in it
someone better

impurities.
And the Last Hour will not come until Medina banishes its evils just as
a

al-Azdi:
The Apostle of Allah

but we returned without getting any. When
he saw the signs of distress on our faces, he stood up on our faces and
said: O
Allah, do not put them under my care, for I would be too weak to care
for them; do
not put them in care of themselves, for they would be incapable of
that, and do not
put them in the care of men, for they would choose the best things for
themselves. He
then placed his hand on my head and said: Ibn Hawalah, when
you see the caliphate
has settled in the holy land, earthquakes, sorrows and serious matters
will
have drawn near and on that day the Last Hour will be nearer to mankind
than this
hand of mine is to your head.

Subay' ibn Khalid said: I came
to Kufah at the time when Tustar was conquered. I took some mules from
it. When I
entered the mosque (of Kufah), I found there some people of moderate
stature, and
among them was a man whom you could recognize when you saw him that he
was from the people of Hijaz.
I asked: Who is he? The people
frowned at me and said: Do you not recognize him? This is Hudhayfah ibn
al-Yaman, the companion of the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him).
Then Hudhayfah said: People used
to ask the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) about good, and
I used to ask him about evil. Then the people stared hard at him.
He said: I know the reason why
you dislike it. I then asked: Apostle of Allah,
will there be evil as there was before,
after this good which Allah has bestowed on us?
He replied: Yes. I asked:
Wherein does the protection from it lie? He
replied: In the sword. I asked: Apostle of Allah,
what will then happen?
He replied: If Allah has on
Earth a caliph who flays your back and takes your property, obey him,
otherwise die
holding onto the stump of a tree.
I asked: What will come next? He
replied: Then the Antichrist (Dajjal) will come
forth accompanied by a river and fire. He
who falls into his fire will certainly receive his reward, and have his
load taken off
him, but he who falls into his river will have his load retained and
his reward taken
off him.
I then asked: What will come
next? He said: The Last Hour will come.

The Apostle of Allah
(peace_be_upon_him) said: Before the Last Hour
there will be commotions like pieces of a dark

in the
evening, or a believer in the evening and infidel
in the morning. He who sits during them
will be better than he who gets up and he who walks during them is
better than he
who runs. So break your bows, cut your bowstrings and strike your

better of

religion as an animal goes through the animal shot

animals. Happy is the one who kills them and they kill him. They
call to the book of Allah, but they have nothing

people asked: What is their sign? He replied: They shave the

Hudhaifah bin Al-Yaman reported that the
Messenger of Allah sallalluhu 'alayhi wa sallam
said,
"Prophethood (meaning himself) will remain

then Allah
will raise it up whenever he wills to raise it up.
Afterwards, there will be a Caliphate that follows
the guidance
of Prophethood remaining with you for as long as
Allah wills it to remain. Then, he will raise it
up whenever He wills to raise it up.
Afterwards, there will be a reign of oppressive
(The reign of Muslim kings who are partially
unjust) rule and it will remain with you for
as long as Allah wills it to remain. Then, there
will be a reign of tyrannical rule and it will
remain for as long as Allah wills it to remain.
Then, Allah will raise it up whenever He wills to

follows the guidance of Prophethood."
Then Hudhaifah said, "The Prophet stopped

One day while the Prophet was
sitting in the company of some people, (The angel) Gabriel came and
asked, "What is
faith?" Allah's Apostle replied, 'Faith is to
believe in Allah, His angels, (the) meeting
with Him, His Apostles, and to believe in Resurrection." Then he
further
asked, "What is Islam?" Allah's Apostle replied,
"To worship Allah Alone and none else,
to offer prayers perfectly to pay the compulsory charity (Zakat) and to
observe
fasts during the month of Ramadan." Then he further asked, "What is
Ihsan
(perfection)?" Allah's Apostle replied, "To
worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you
cannot achieve this state of devotion then you must consider that He is
looking at
you." Then he further asked, "When will the Hour be
established?" Allah's
Apostle replied, "The answerer has no better knowledge than the
questioner. But
I will inform you about its portents.
1. When a slave (lady) gives
birth to her master.
2. When the shepherds of black
camels start boasting and competing with others in the construction of
higher
buildings. And the Hour is one of five things
which nobody knows except Allah.
The Prophet then recited:
"Verily, with Allah (Alone) is the knowledge of
the Hour--." (31. 34) Then that man
(Gabriel) left and the Prophet asked his companions to call him back,
but
they could not see him. Then the Prophet said, "That was Gabriel who
came to teach
the people their religion." Abu 'Abdullah said: He (the Prophet)
considered all
that as a part of faith.

When the Prophet finished his speech, he said, "Where is the

Allah's Apostle said, "Gabriel has just now told

the enemy of the Jews." Allah's Apostle
said, "The first portent of the Hour will be
a fire that will bring together the
people from the east to the west; the first
meal of the people of Paradise will be
Extra-lobe (caudate lobe) of fish-liver. As for
the resemblance of the child to its
parents: If a man has sexual intercourse with his
wife and gets discharge first, the child
will resemble the father, and if the woman gets discharge first, the
child will
resemble her." On that 'Abdullah bin Salam said,
"I testify that you are the Apostle of
Allah." 'Abdullah bin Salam further said, "O
Allah's Apostle! The Jews are liars, and if
they should come to know about my conversion to Islam before you ask
them (about
me), they would tell a lie about me." The Jews came to Allah's Apostle
and
'Abdullah went inside the house. Allah's Apostle
asked (the Jews), "What kind of man is
'Abdullah bin Salam amongst you?" They replied, "He is the most learned
person
amongst us, and the best amongst us, and the son of the best amongst
us." Allah's
Apostle said, "What do you think if he embraces Islam (will you do as
he does)?"
The Jews said, "May Allah save him from it." Then 'Abdullah bin Salam
came out in
front of them saying, "I testify that None has the right to be
worshipped but Allah

While we were with Allah's Apostle who was
distributing (i.e. some property), there came
Dhu-l-Khuwaisira, a man from the tribe of Bani Tamim and said, "O
Allah's Apostle! Do Justice." The Prophet said,
"Woe to you! Who could do justice if I did not? I would be
a desperate loser if I did not do justice." 'Umar
said, "O Allah's Apostle! Allow me to chop his head off." The
Prophet said, "Leave him, for he has companions
who pray and fast in such a way that you will consider
your fasting negligible in comparison to theirs.
They recite Qur'an but it does not go beyond their throats (i.e.
they do not act on it) and they will desert Islam
as an arrow goes through a victim's body, so that the hunter,
on looking at the arrow's blade, would see nothing
on it; he would look at its Risaf and see nothing: he
would look at its Na,di and see nothing, and he
would look at its Qudhadh ( 1 ) and see nothing (neither meat
nor blood), for the arrow has been too fast even
for the blood and excretions to smear. The sign by which
they will be recognized is that among them there
will be a black man, one of whose arms will resemble a
woman's breast or a lump of meat moving loosely.
Those people will appear when there will be differences amongst
the people." I testify that I heard this narration
from Allah's Apostle and I testify that 'Ali bin Abi Talib
fought with such people, and I was in his company.
He ordered that the man (described by the Prophet ) should be
looked for. The man was brought and I looked at

to you for I would rather fall from the sky than
attribute something to him falsely. But when I tell you a thing
which is between you and me, then no doubt, war is
guile. I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "In the last days
of this world there will appear some young foolish
people who will use (in their claim) the best speech of all
people (i.e. the Qur'an) and they will abandon
Islam as an arrow going through the game. Their belief will not
go beyond their throats (i.e. they will have
practically no belief), so wherever you meet them, kill them, for he
who kills them shall get a reward on the Day of
Resurrection."

We were talking about Hajjat-ul-Wada,

Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal. Noah and the prophets following
him warned (their people) of him. He will appear
amongst you (O Muhammad's followers), and if it happens that
some of his qualities may be hidden from you, but
your Lord's State is clear to you and not hidden from
you. The Prophet said it thrice. Verily, your Lord
is not blind in one eye, while he (i.e. Ad-Dajjal) is blind in
the right eye which looks like a grape bulging out
(of its cluster). No doubt,! Allah has made your blood and
your
properties sacred to one another like the sanctity
of this day of yours, in this town of yours, in this month
of yours." The Prophet added: No doubt! Haven't I
conveyed Allah's Message to you? " They replied,
"Yes," The Prophet said thrice, "O Allah! Be

Allah be merciful to you! Do not become infidels

Narrated Hudhaifa:
Allah's Apostle related to us, two
prophetic narrations one of which I have seen
fulfilled and I am waiting for the fulfillment of the other. The
Prophet
told us that the virtue of honesty descended in
the roots of men's hearts (from Allah) and then they learned it
from the Qur'an and then they learned it from the
Sunna (the Prophet's traditions). The Prophet further
told us how that honesty will be taken away: He
said: "Man will go to sleep during which honesty will be taken
away from his heart and only its trace will remain
in his heart like the trace of a dark spot; then man will go to
sleep, during which honesty will decrease further
still, so that its trace will resemble the trace of blister as
when an ember is dropped on one's foot which would
make it swell, and one would see it swollen but there would
be nothing inside. People would be carrying out
their trade but hardly will there be a trustworthy person. It
will be said, 'in such-and-such tribe there is an
honest man,' and later it will be said about some man, 'What a
wise, polite and strong man he is!' Though he will
not have faith equal even to a mustard seed in his heart."
No doubt, there came upon me a time when I did not
mind dealing (bargaining) with anyone of you, for
if he was a Muslim his Islam would compel him to
pay me what is due to me, and if he was a Christian, the
Muslim official would compel him to pay me what is
due to me, but today I do not deal except with such-and-such
person.

Imam Ahmad reported via Abu Nudrah that Abu
Said said: " One day the Prophet (S) led us in
praying the afternoon prayer (Salat al-Asr). Then
he stood and addressed us until sunset. He
mentioned everything that was to happen until the
day of Resurrection, and left nothing unsaid. Some
of us remembered it, and some of us forgot it. One
of the things he said was: 'O people, this world
is full of attractive temptations. Allah has
appointed you as vicegerents (Khalifah) in this
world, and He will see how you will act. So guard
yourselves against the temptations of this world
and of women.' Towards the end of the speech, he
said, 'The sun is about to set, and what remains
of this world, compared to what has passed, is
like what remains of this day compared to what has
passed.'"

"The people cheered and shouted Allahu akbar!

'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr said, "I went to the
Prophet (S) one day whilst he was performing Wudu'
(ablution) slowly and carefully. He raised his
head, looked at me and said, 'Six things will
happen to this Ummah: the death of your Prophet -
'and when I heard that I was aghast,' - this is
the first. The second is that your wealth will
increase so much that if a man were given ten
thousand, he would still not be content with it.
The third is that tribulation will enter the house
of every one of you. The fourth is that sudden
death will be widespread. The fifth is a
peace-treaty between you and the Romans; they will
gather troops against you for nine months - like a
woman's period of childbearing then they will be
the first to break the treaty. The sixth is the
conquest of a city.' I asked, 'O Messenger of
Allah,. which city?' He said, 'Constantinople."' (Muslim)

Dhu Mukhammar said, "The Prophet (S) said, 'You
will make a peace-treaty with the Romans,
and together you will invade an enemy beyond Rome.
You will be victorious and take much booty. Then
you will camp in a hilly pasture; one of the Roman
men will come and raise a cross and say "Victory
to the Cross", so one of the Muslims will come and
kill him. Then the Romans will break the treaty,
and there will be a battle. They will gather an
army against you and come against you with eighty
banners, each banner followed by ten thousand
men."' (Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah.) 1

Abu Hurayrah said, "The Prophet (S) said, 'The
Hour will not come until the Romans camp
at al-A'mash or Dabiq. An army, composed of the
best people on earth at that time, will come out
from Madinah to meet them. When they have
arranged themselves in ranks, the Romans will say,
'Do not stand between us and those who took
prisoners from amongst us. Let us fight with
them.' The Muslims will say, 'NO, by Allah, we
will never stand aside from you and our brothers.'
Then they will fight. One-third will run away,
and Allah will never forgive them. One-third will
be killed, and they will be the best of martyrs in
Allah's sight. -One-third, who will never be
subjected to trials or tribulations, will win, and
will conquer Constantinople. Whilst they are
sharing out the booty, after hanging their swords
on the olive-trees, Satan will shout to them that
the Dajjal has taken their place among their
families. They will rush out, but will find that
it is not true. When they come to Syria, the
Dajjal will appear, while they are preparing for
battle and drawing up the ranks. When the time
for prayer comes, Jesus the son of Mary will
descend and lead them in prayer. When the enemy
of Allah (i.e. the Dajjal) sees him, he will start
to dissolve like salt in water, but Allah will
kill him'" (Muslim) 3

When Mustawrid al-Qurashi was sitting with 'Amr
ibn al-'As, he said, "I heard the Prophet (S) say, 'The Hour
will come when the Romans will be in
the majority. "Amr asked him, "What are you
saying'? He said, "I am repeating that which I
heard from the Prophet (S)." 'Amr said, "If you
say this, it is true, because they have four good
characteristics: they are the most able to cope
with tribulation, the quickest to recover after
disaster and to return to the fight after
disaster, and are the best as far as treating, the
poor, weak and orphans is concerned. They have a
fifth characteristic which is very good: they do
not allow themselves to be oppressed by their
kings."6

Abu Umamah al-Bahili said, "The Prophet (S)
delivered a speech to us, most of which dealt with
the Dajjal and warned us against him. He said,
'No tribulation on earth since the creation of
Adam will be worse than the tribulation of the
Dajjal. Allah has never sent a Prophet who did
not warn his Ummah against the Dajjal. I am the
last of the Prophets, and you are the last Ummah.
The Dajjal is emerging among you and it is
inevitable. If he appears while I am still among
you, I will contend with him on behalf of every
Muslim. But if he appears after I am gone, then
every person must contend with him on his own
behalf, and Allah will take care of every Muslim
on my behalf. He will appear on the way between
Syria and Iraq, and will spread disaster right and
left. O servants of Allah, adhere to the path of
Truth. I shall describe him for you in a way that
no Prophet has ever done before.
He will start by saying that he is a Prophet,
but there will be no Prophet after me. Then he
will say, "I am your Lord," but you will never see
your Lord until you die. The Dajjal is one-eyed,
but your Lord, glorified be He, is not one-eyed.
On his forehead will be written the word Kafir,
which every Muslim, literate or illiterate, will
be able to read. Among the tribulations he will
bring will be the Paradise and Hell he will offer;
but that which he calls Hell will be Paradise, and
that which he calls Paradise will be Hell.
Whoever enters his Hell, let him seek refuge with
Allah and recite the opening Ayat of Surat
al-Kahf, and it will become cool and peaceful for
him, as the fire became cool and peaceful for
Abraham.
"He will say to a Bedouin, What do you think if
I bring your father and mother back to life for
you? Will you bear witness that I am your lord?
The Bedouin will say Yes, so two devils will
assume the appearance of his father and mother,
and will say, "O my son, follow him for he is your
lord."
"He will be given power over one person, whom
he will kill and cut in two with a saw. Then he
will say, Look at this slave of mine, now I will
resurrect him, but he will still claim that he has
a Lord other than me. Allah will resurrect him,
and this evil man (the Dajjal) will say to him,
Who is your Lord? The man will answer, My Lord is
Allah, and you are the enemy of Allah. You are
the Dajjal. By Allah, I have never been more sure
of this than I am today."
Abu Sa'id said, "The Prophet (S) said, 'That
man will have the highest status among my Ummah in
Paradise. ' "
Abu Sa'id said, ','By Allah, we never thought that
that man would be any other than 'Umar ibn
al-Khattdb, until he passed away.
Al-Muhdribi said: 'Then we referred to the
Hadith of Abu Rafi'i, which said, "Part of his
Fitnah 'will be the fact that he will pass through
an area whose people will deny him, and none of
their livestock will remain alive. Then he will
pass through a second area whose people will
believe in him; he will order the sky to rain and
the earth to bring forth crops, and their flocks
will return from grazing fatter than they have
ever been, with their flanks stretched, their
udders full. He will pass through every place on
earth - except Makkah and Madinah, which he will
never enter, for there are angels guarding every
gate of them with unsheathed swords until he
reaches al-Zarib al-Ahmar and camps at the edge of
the salt-marsh. Madinah will be shaken by three
tremors, after which every Munafiq (hypocrite)
will leave it, and it will be cleansed of evil, as
iron is cleansed of dross. That day will be
called Yawm al-Khalas (The Day of
Purification)."'
Umm Sharik bint Abi'l-'Akr said , "O Messenger
of Allah, where will the Arabs be at that time?"
He said, "At that time they will be few; most of
them will be in Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem), and
their Imam will be a righteous man. Whilst their
Imam is going forward to lead the people in
praying Salat al-Subh (the morning prayer), Jesus
son of Mary will descend. The Imam will step
back, to let Jesus lead the people in prayer, but
Jesus will place his hand between the man's
shoulders and say, 'Go forward and lead the
prayer, for the Iqamah was made for you.' So the
Imam will lead the people in prayer, and
afterwards Jesus (AS) will say, 'Open the gate.'
The gate will be opened, and behind it will be the
Dajjal and a thousand Jews, each of them bearing a
sword and shield. When the Dajjal sees Jesus, he
will begin to dissolve like salt in water, and
will run away. Jesus will say, 'You will remain
alive until I strike you with my sword.' He will
catch up with him at the eastern gate of Ludd and
will kill him. The Jews will be deflated with the
help of Allah. There will be no place for them to
hide; they will not be able to hide behind any
stone, wall, animal or tree - except the boxthorn
(al-Gharqarah) - without it saying, 'O Muslim
servant of Allah! here is a Jew, come and kill
him!"' The Prophet (S) said, "The time of the
Dajjal will be forty years; one year like half a
year, one year like a month, and one month like a
week. The rest of his days will pass so quickly
that if one of you were at one of the gates of
Madinah, he would not reach the other gate before
evening fell."
Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah, how will
we pray in those shorter days?" He said, "Work out
the times of prayer in the same way that you do in
these longer days, and then pray. " The Prophet
(S) said, "Jesus son of Mary will be a just
administrator and leader of my Ummah. He will
break the cross kill the pigs, and abolish the
Jizyah (tax on non-Muslims). He will not collect
the Sadaqah, so he will not collect sheep and
camels. Mutual enmity and hatred will
disappear.
Every harmful animal will be made harmless, so
that a small boy will be able to put his hand into
a snake's mouth without being harmed, a small girl
will be able to make a lion run away from her, and
a wolf will go among sheep as if he were a
sheepdog. The earth will be filled with peace as
a container is filled with water. People will be
in complete agreement, and only Allah will be
worshipped. Wars will cease, and the authority of
Quraysh will be taken away. The earth will be
like a silver basin, and will produce fruit so
abundantly that a group of people will gather to
eat a bunch of grapes or one pomegranate and will
be satisfied. A bull will be worth so much money,
but a horse will be worth only a few dirhams."
Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah, why will
a horse be so cheap?" He said, "Because it will
never be ridden in war. " He was asked, "Why will
the bull be so expensive?" He said, "Because it
will plough the earth. For three years before the
Dajjal emerges, the people will suffer severe
hunger. In the first year, Allah will order the
sky to withhold a third of its rain, and the earth
to withhold two-thirds of its fruits. In the
third year, He will order the sky to withhold all
of its rain, and the earth to withhold all of its
fruits, so that nothing green will grow. Every
cloven-hoofed creature will die except for
whatever Allah wills." Someone asked, "How will
the people live at that time?" He said, "By saying
La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar, Subhan Allah
and Al-Hamdu-li'llah. This will be like food for
them." 1

The prophet (S) said, "The Dajjal will come
forth, and one of the Believers will go towards
him. The armed men of the Dajjal will ask him,
'Where are you going?' He will say, 'I am going to
this one who has come forth.' They will say, 'Kill

sees him, he will say, '0 People, this is the

the Dajjal will order them to seize him and wound
him in the head; they will inflict blows all over,
even in his back and stomach. The Dajjal will ask

"Then the Trumpet will be blown, and everyone

Magog will fire their arrows into the sky, and
they will fall back to earth with something like
blood on them. Gog and Magog will say, 'We have
defeated the people of earth, and overcome the
people of heaven.' Then Allah will send a kind of
worm in the napes of their necks, and they will be
killed by it . . . 'By Him in Whose hand is the
soul of Muhammad, the beasts of the earth will
become fat.""
Gog and Magog are two groups of Turks,
descended rom Yafith (Japheth), the father of the
Turks, one of the sons of Noah. At the time of
Abraham (AS), there was a king called
Dhu'l-Qarnayn. He performed Tawaf around the
Ka'bah with Abraham (AS) when he first built it;
he believed and followed him. Dhul'-Qarnayn was a
good man and a great king; Allah gave him great
power and he ruled the east and west. He held
sway over all kings and countries, and traveled
far and wide in both east and west. He traveled
eastwards until he reached a pass between two
mountains, through which people were coming out.
They did not understand anything, because they
were so isolated; they were Gog and Magog. They
were spreading corruption through the earth, and
harming the people, so the people sought help from
Dhu'l-Qarnayn. They asked him to build a barrier
between them and Gog and Magog. He asked them to
help him to build it, so together they built a
barrier by mixing iron, copper and tar.
Thus Dhu'l-Qarnayn restrained Gog and Magog
behind the barrier. They tried to penetrate the
barrier, or to climb over it, but to no avail.
They could not succeed because the barrier is so
huge and smooth. They began to dig, and they have
been digging for centuries; they will continue to
do so until the time when Allah decrees that they
come out. At that time the barrier will collapse,
and Gog and Magog will rush out in all directions,
spreading corruption, uprooting plants, killing
people. When Jesus (AS) prays against them, Allah
will send a kind of worm in the napes of their
necks, and they will be killed by it.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar ibn
al-Khattab:
It is narrated on the authority
of Yahya ibn Ya'mar that the first man who
discussed Qadr (Divine Decree) in Basrah was
Ma'bad al-Juhani. Humayd ibn AbdurRahman al-Himyari and I set out for
Pilgrimage or for Umrah and said: Should it so
happen that we come into contact with one
of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) we
shall ask
him about what is talked about Taqdir (Division Decree). Accidentally
we came
across Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab, while he was entering the
mosque. My
companion and I surrounded him. One of us (stood) on his right and the
other stood on
his left. I expected that my companion would authorize me to speak. I
therefore
said: AbuAbdurRahman! There have appeared some people in our land who
recite
the Holy Qur'an and pursue knowledge.
And then after talking about
their affairs, added: They (such people) claim
that there is no such thing as Divine
Decree and events are not predestined. He (Abdullah ibn Umar) said:
When you
happen to meet such people tell them that I have nothing to do with
them and
they have nothing to do with me. And verily they are in no way
responsible for my
(belief).
Abdullah ibn Umar swore by Him
(the Lord) (and said): If any one of them (who does not believe in the
Divine
Decree) had with him gold equal to the bulk of
(the mountain) Uhud and then, it (in the
way of Allah), Allah would not accept it unless he affirmed his faith
in Divine
Decree. He further said: My father, Umar ibn al-Khattab, told me: One
day we
were sitting in the company of Allah's Apostle (peace_be_upon_him) when
there
appeared before us a man dressed in pure white clothes, his hair
extraordinarily black. There were no signs of
travel on him. None amongst us recognized him.
At last he sat with the Apostle
(peace_be_upon_him) He knelt before him placed his palms on his thighs
and said:
Muhammad, inform me about al-Islam. The Messenger of Allah
(peace_be_upon_him) said: Al-Islam implies that
you testify that there is no god but Allah and
that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and you establish prayer, pay
Zakat,
observe the fast of Ramadan, and perform pilgrimage to the (House) if
you
are solvent enough (to bear the expense of) the journey. He (the
inquirer) said:
You have told the truth.
He (Umar ibn al-Khattab) said:
It amazed us that he would put the question and then he would himself
verify the
truth. He (the inquirer) said: Inform me about
Iman (faith). He (the Holy Prophet)
replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah, in
His angels, in His Books, in His
Apostles, in the Day of Judgment, and you affirm
your faith in the Divine Decree about
good and evil. He (the inquirer) said: You have
told the truth. He (the inquirer) again
said: Inform me about al-Ihsan (performance of good deeds). He (the
Holy Prophet)
said: That you worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, for though you
don't
see Him, He, verily, sees you. He (the enquirer) again said: Inform
me about the
hour (of the Doom). He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: One who is asked
knows no
more than the one who is inquiring (about it). He (the inquirer) said:
Tell
me some of its indications. He (the Holy Prophet) said: That the
slave-girl will give
birth to her mistress and master, that you will
find barefooted, destitute goat-herds
vying with one another in the construction of magnificent buildings.
He (the narrator, Umar ibn
al-Khattab) said: Then he (the inquirer) went on
his way but I stayed with him (the Holy
Prophet) for a long while. He then, said to me:
Umar, do you know who this inquirer was?
I replied: Allah and His Apostle knows best. He (the Holy Prophet)
remarked: He was
Gabriel (the angel). He came to you in order to instruct you in matters
of
religion.

have been drawn together near me and I have been

my Lord that my Ummah should not be destroyed by famine, nor

My Lord said: Muhammad, whenever I make a
decision, there is none to change it. Well, I
grant you that your Ummah will not be destroyed by famine,
nor will it be dominated by a foreign enemy who
will take their lives and destroy them root and branch, even
if all the people from the different parts of the

be from amongst them, viz. your Ummah, that some
people will kill or imprison the others.

Nay, by

They will then fight and a third

Once there blew a red storm in
Kufah and there came a person who had nothing to say but (these words):
Abdullah ibn
Mas'ud, the Last Hour has come.
He (Abdullah ibn Mas'ud) was
sitting reclining against something, and he said:
The Last Hour will not come until the
people divide inheritance and rejoice over booty. Then He said pointing
towards Syria, with a gesture of his hand like
this: The enemy will muster strength against
the Muslims and the Muslims will muster strength against them
(Syrians). I
said: You mean Rome? He said: Yes, and there will be a terrible fight.
The
Muslims will prepare a detachment (for fighting
unto death) which will not return unless
victorious. They will fight until darkness intervenes. Both sides will
return
without being victorious and both will be wiped
out. The Muslims will again prepare a
detachment for fighting unto death so that they may not return unless
victorious.
When it is the fourth day, a new
detachment from the remnant of the Muslims will be prepared and Allah
will decree that
the enemy will be routed. They would fight such a fight the like of
which has not
been seen, so fierce that even if a bird were to
pass their flanks, it would fall down
dead before reaching the other end. (There will be such a large scale
massacre) that
when counting will be done, (only) one out of a hundred men related to
one another
would be found alive. So what can be the joy at the spoils of such war
and what
inheritance can be divided?
They will be in this very state
when they will hear of a calamity more horrible
than this. A cry will reach them: The
Dajjal has taken your place among your offspring. They will therefore
throw away what
is in their hands and go forward, sending ten horsemen as a scouting
party.
Allah's Apostle (peace_be_upon_him) said: I know their names, the names

will be the best horsemen on the surface
of the Earth on that day or among the best horsemen on the surface of

Narrated An-Nawwas ibn Sam'an:
Allah's Apostle
(peace_be_upon_him) mentioned of the Dajjal one
day in the morning. He sometimes described him
as insignificant and sometimes described (his turmoil) as very
significant
(and we felt) as if he were in the cluster of the date-palm trees. When
we went to
him (to the Holy Prophet) in the evening and he read (the signs of
fear) on our
faces, he said: What is the matter with you? We said: Allah's Apostle
(peace_be_upon_him) you mentioned the Dajjal this
morning (sometimes describing him) as
insignificant and sometimes very important, until
we began to think he was present in
some (nearly) part of the cluster of the date-palm trees.
So he said: I harbour fear in
regard to you in so many other things besides the Dajjal. If he comes
forth while I
am among you, I shall contend with him on your behalf, but if he comes
forth while
I am not among you, a man must contend on his own behalf and Allah will
take care
of every Muslim on my behalf (and safeguard him against his evil). He
(the
Dajjal) will be a young man with twisted, cropped
hair, and a blind eye. I compare him with
AbdulUzza ibn Qatan. He who among you will survive to see him should
recite
over him the opening verses of Surah al-Kahf (xviii). He will appear on
the way
between Syria and Iraq and will spread mischief right and left. O
servant of Allah!
Adhere (to the path of Truth).
We said: Allah's Apostle
(peace_be_upon_him), how long will he stay on
Earth? He said: For forty days, one day like
a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest of the
days will be
like your days. We said: Allah's Apostle (peace_be_upon_him) will one
day's
prayer suffice for the prayers of the day equal to one year? Thereupon
he said: No,
but you must make an estimate of the time (and then observe prayer).
We said: Allah's apostle
(peace_be_upon_him) how quickly will he walk upon
the earth? Thereupon he said: Like
cloud driven by the wind. He will come to the people and invite them
(to a wrong
religion); they will affirm their faith in him and respond to him. He
will then give a
command to the sky: there will be rainfall upon the Earth and it will
grow crops.
Then in the evening, their pasturing animals will come to them with
their humps very
high, their udders full of milk and their flanks distended. He will
then come to
another people and invite them. But they will
reject him so he will go away from them;
they will have a drought and nothing will be left with them in the form
of wealth.
He will then walk through the
desert and say to it: Bring forth your treasures.
The treasures will come out and gather
before him like a swarm of bees. He will then call someone in the flush
of youth,
strike him with the sword, cut him into two pieces
and (make these pieces lie at the
distance which is generally between the archer and his target.
He will then call (that young
man) and he will come forward laughing with his
face gleaming (with happiness). It will
at this very time that Allah will send Christ, son
of Mary. He will descend at the white
minaret on the eastern side of Damascus, wearing two garments lightly
dyed
with saffron and placing his hands on the wings of two Angels. When he
lowers his
head, there will fall beads of perspiration from his head, and when he
raises it up,
beads like pearls will scatter from it. Every non-believer who smells
the odour
of his body will die and his breath will reach as far as he is able to
see. He will
then search for him (Dajjal) until he catches hold
of him at the gate of Ludd and kills
him.
Then a people whom Allah had
protected will come to Jesus, son of Mary, and he will wipe their faces
and inform
them of their ranks in Paradise. It will be under
such conditions that Allah will reveal
to Jesus these words: I have brought forth from among My servants such
people
against whom none will be able to fight; you take these people safely
to Tur, and
then Allah will send Gog and Magog and they will swarm down from every
slope. The
first of them will pass the lake of Tiberias and drink out of it. And
when the last
of them passes, he will say: There was once water there.
Jesus and his companions will
then be besieged here (at Tur, and they will be so hard pressed) that
the head of the
ox will be dearer to them than one hundred dinars. Allah's Apostle
(peace_be_upon_him), Jesus, and his companions
will supplicate Allah, Who will send to
them insects (which will attack their necks) and
in the morning they would perish as
one single person. Allah's Apostle (peace_be_upon_him), Jesus, and his
companions, then come down to Earth and they will not find on Earth as
much
space as a single span that is not filled with putrefaction and stench.
Allah's
Apostle (peace_be_upon_him), Jesus, and his companions will then
beseech Allah
who will send birds whose necks would be like those of Bactrian camels
and they
will carry them away and throw them where Allah wills.
Then Allah will send rain which
no house of mud-bricks or (tent of) camel-hair
will keep out and it will wash the Earth
until it resembles a mirror. Then the Earth will
be told to bring forth its fruit and
restore its blessing and, as a result thereof,
there will grow (such a big) pomegranate that
a group of people will be able to eat it and seek shelter under its
skin, a
dairy cow will give so much milk that a whole
party will be able to drink it. The milking
camel will give such (a large quantity of) milk
that the whole tribe will be able to drink
from it, and the milking-sheep will give so much
milk that the whole family will be able
to drink from it. At that time Allah will send a pleasant wind which
will soothe
(people) even under their armpits. He will take
the life of every Muslim and only the
wicked will survive who will commit adultery like asses and the Last
Hour would come
to them.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr:
Someone came to him and said:
What is this hadith that you narrate that the Last Hour will come at a
certain time?
Thereupon he said: Hallowed be Allah, there is no god but Allah (or
words to the
same effect). I have decided that I shall not narrate anything to
anyone now. I
have only said that you will see after some time an important event:
that the
(sacred) House (Ka'bah) will be burnt and it
definitely happen.
He then reported that Allah's
Messenger (peace_be_upon_him) said: The Dajjal
will appear in my Ummah and he will stay
(in the world) for forty--I cannot say whether he meant forty days,
forty months
or forty years. Allah will then send Jesus, son of Mary, who will
resemble Urwah ibn
Mas'ud. He (Jesus Christ) will chase him and kill him. Then people will
live for
seven years, during which time there will be no rancour between any two
persons.
After that Allah will send a cold wind from the direction of Syria.
None will
survive on Earth, having a speck of good in him or
faith in him: he will die. Even if some
among you were to enter the innermost part of the mountain, this wind
would reach
that place also and cause your death.
I heard Allah's Apostle
(peace_be_upon_him) as saying: Only the wicked
people will survive and they will be as
careless as birds with the characteristics of
beasts. They will never appreciate good nor
condemn evil. Then Satan will come to them, in human form, and would
say: Don't
you respond? They will say: What do you order us to do? He will command
them to
worship the idols but, in spite of this, they will have an abundance of
sustenance and
lead comfortable lives. Then the trumpet will be blown and he who hears
it
will bend his neck to one side and raise it from
the other side. The first one to hear
that trumpet will be the person who is busy in setting right the
cistern meant for
supplying water to the camels. He will faint and the other people will
also faint.
Then Allah will send or He will cause to be sent
rain which will be like dew and there
will grow out of it the bodies of people.
Then the second trumpet will be
blown and they will stand up and begin to look (around). Then it will
be said: O
people, go to your Lord. They will be made to stand there and they will
be
questioned. Then it will be said: Bring out a
group (of them) for the Hell-Fire. It will be
asked: How much? It will be said: Nine hundred and ninety-nine out of
one thousand for
the Hell-Fire. That will be the day that will make the children old
because of its
terror and that will be the day about which it has been said: "On the

shank will be uncovered".

he fell in the first Jihad on the side of the
Prophet (S).
"When I became a widow, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn'Awf,
one of the Companions of the Prophet (S), sent me

me a proposal of marriage on behalf of his
freedman Usamah ibn Zayd. I had been told that the

said, 'It is up to you: marry me to whomever you
wish.'
"The Prophet (S) said, 'Go and stay with Umm
Sharik.' Umm Sharik was a rich Ansari (Muslim
originally from Madinah) woman, who spent much in
the way of Allah and entertained many guests. I
said, 'I will do as you wish.' Then he said,
'Don't go. Umm Sharik has many guests, and I

the Banu Fihr of Quraysh, the same tribe as that
to which Fatimah belonged).
"So I went to stay with him, and when I had
completed my 'Iddah (period of waiting), I heard
the
Prophet's (S) announcer calling for congregational
prayer. I went out to the mosque, and prayed
behind the Prophet (S). I was in the women's row,
which was at the back of the congregation. When
the Prophet (S) had finished his prayer, he sat on
the pulpit, smiling, and said, 'Everyone should
stay in his place.' Then he said, 'Do you know why
I have asked you to assemble?' The people said,
'Allah and His Messenger know best.'
"He said, 'By Allah, I have not gathered you
here to give you an exhortation or a warning. I
have kept you here because Tamim al-Dari, a
Christian man who has come and embraced Islam,
told me something which agrees with that which I
have told you about the Dajjal. He told me that
he had sailed in a ship with thirty men from Banu
Lakhm and Banu Judham. The waves had tossed them
about for a month, then they were brought near to
an island, at the time of sunset. They landed on
the island, and were met by a beast who was so
hairy that they could not tell its front from its
back. They said, "Woe to you! What are you?" It
said, "I am al-Jassasah." They said, "What is
al-Jassasah?" It said, "O people, go to this man
in the monastery, for he is very eager to know
about you." Tamim said that when it named a person
to us, we were afraid lest it be a devil.
"Tamim said, 'We quickly went to the monastery.
There we found a huge man with his hands tied up
to his neck and with iron shackles between his
legs up to the ankles. We said, "Woe to you, who
are you?" He said, "You will soon know about me.
Tell me who you are." We said, "We are people from
Arabia. We sailed in a ship, but the waves have
been tossing us about for a month, and they
brought us to your island, where we met a beast
who was so hairy that we could not tell its front
from its back. We said to it, "Woe to you! What
are you?" and it said, "I am al-Jassasah." We
asked, "What is al-Jassasah?" and it told us, "Go
to this man in the monastery, for he is very eager
to know about you." So we came to you quickly,
fearing that it might be a devil.'
The man said, 'Tell me about the date-palms of
Baysan.' We said, 'What do you want to know about
them?' He said, 'I want to know whether these
trees bear fruit or not.' We said, 'Yes.' He said,
'Soon they will not bear fruit.' Then he said,
'Tell me about the lake of al-Tabariyyah
[Tiberias, in Palestine].' We said, 'What do you
want to know about it?' He asked, 'Is there water
in it?' We said, 'There is plenty of water in it.'
He said, 'Soon it will become dry.' Then he said,
'Tell me about the spring of Zughar.' We said,
'What do you want to know about it?' He said, 'Is
there water in it, and does it irrigate the land?'
We said, 'Yes, there is plenty of water in it, and
the people use it to irrigate the land.'
"Then he said, 'Tell me about the unlettered
Prophet - what has he done?' We said, 'He has left
Makkah and settled in Yathrib.' He asked, 'Do the
Arabs fight against him?' We said, 'Yes.' He said,
'How does he deal with them?' So we told him that
the Prophet (S) had overcome the Arabs around him
and that they had followed him. He asked, 'Has it
really happened?' We said, 'Yes.' He said, 'It is
better for them if they follow him. Now I will
tell you about myself. I am the Dajjal. I will
soon be permitted to leave this place: 1 will
emerge and travel about the earth. In forty
nights I will pass through every town, except
Makkah and Madinah, for these have been forbidden
to me. Every time I try to enter either of them,
I will be met by an angel bearing an unsheathed
sword, who will prevent me from entering. There
will be angels guarding them at every passage
leading to them.'
Fatimah said, "The Prophet (S), striking the
pulpit with his staff, said: 'This is Tayyibah,
this is Tayyibah, this is Tayyibah [i.e. Madinah].
Have I not told you something like this?' The
people said, 'Yes.' He said, 'I liked the account
given to me by Tamim because it agrees with that
which I have told you about the Dajjal, and about
Makkah and Madinah. Indeed he is in the Syrian
sea or the Yemen sea. No, on the contrary, he is
in the East, he is in the East, he is in the East'
- and he pointed towards the East. Fatimah said:
1 memorized this from the Prophet (S)."

We used to go to Imran b. Husayn
passing in front of Hisham b. Amir. He, one day, said: You pass by me
(in order) to
go to some persons but (amongst the living persons) none remained in
the
company of Allah's Apostle (peace_be_upon_him) more than I and none
knows more
hadiths than I. I heard Allah's Apostle (peace_be_upon_him) said: There
would be no creation (creating more trouble) than the Dajjal right from
the
creation of Adam to the Last Hour.

Muhsin Khan: Do they then wait for anything
other than that the angels should come to them,
or that your Lord should come, or that some of the
Signs of your Lord should come
(i.e. portents of the Hour e.g. arising of the sun
from the west)! The day that some of the Signs
of Your Lord do come, no good will it do to a
person to believe then, if he believed not before,
nor earned good (by performing deeds of
righteousness) through his Faith. Say: "Wait you!
We (too) are waiting"

YUSUFALI: They ask thee about the

Say: "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord

occur. Heavy were its burden through the
heavens and the earth. Only, all of a sudden will
it come to you." They ask thee as if thou Wert
eager in search thereof: Say: "The knowledge
thereof is with Allah (alone), but most men know
not."

The Kingdom of God that was talked about in the
Gospels was in this world. The people that was
given victory over their enemies who rejected Isa
(pbuh) were the Muslims and Umar ibn Kattab was
the leader of those Muslims that liberated
Palestine and established the Kingdom of God
already in this world. This confirmed the message
of Isa (pbuh) in the Gospels.
